What We Do

The North Kingstown Fire Department was organized in 1917. The Department began to move towards a full-time paid organization shortly after the Great 1938 Hurricane, and increased its number of paid members during World War II.

Currently the Fire Department protects approximately 30,000 residents on the Town, in addition to a working population of approximately 12,000 in the Quonset Business park.

 

Fire Division

The Fire Department operates 5 Engine Companies, 1 Ladder Company, 1 Special Hazards, 2 Brush units, and a Command unit. Each piece of apparatus is strategically located to quickly respond to and mitigate and emergencies that may arise.

Emergency Medical Services

NKFD also has an EMS Division which is composed of 2 Staffed ALS Rescues, 2 Reserve fully stocked ALS Rescues, and an EMS Division administrator.

Marine Division

The Department also has 3 Marine assets able to respond to waters within North Kingstown and to assist outside agencies.

Maintenance Division

Two full time Mechanics operate in a maintenance shop housed within our Station 6. The Maintenance Division also assists the North Kingstown Police Department with vehicle maintenance.
